After a week of intense, non-stop work helping Casa de la Vida – Tepoztlan, Mexico launch their new wellness website and implement essential business systems, I treated myself to a week of wellness in beautiful San Miguel de Allende.
Located approximately five hours away from Mexico City, San Miguel is known as one of the pueblo mágicos within Mexico and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Arriving by bus, I was overjoyed to be reunited with my dear friend Angela who has made San Miguel her home and was waiting for us at the bus terminal. What a sweet reunion!
Founder of Nebrosa, a boutique travel company providing authentic cultural experiences, Angela moved to San Miguel de Allende from San Francisco, California to launch her new venture.
With Angela as our guide, I knew before even embarking on this visit that we would be in the best of hands but I must say any expectations I unknowingly had were far surpassed. I still can’t believe how many incredible behind-the-scenes experiences we had on this trip, all thanks to Angela’s deep expertise and guidance within and around this truly magical small town. (muchas gracias, amiga!)
My first visit to this lovely town was back in 2005, at which time I visited the must-see landmarks, sights and town highlights. My intention for this current trip, therefore, was quite a bit different. I simply wanted to be surrounded by the beauty of San Miguel de Allende, with its gorgeous gardens, inspiring artwork, and colorful vibrant streets, as well as enjoy be-ing with favorite people.
Nothing could have prepared me, however, for the magic that was in store, as I was about to discover just how much more incredible this lovely town had become since my last visit.
Our first stop: the rooftop of La Posadita for the most amazing Mexican dinner under the stars. I ordered one of my favorite Mexican comfort foods – healthy and spicy tortilla soup – which was absolutely delicioso! The highlight of this fabulous place, beyond even the incredible food, was the magnificent night view we enjoyed of La Parroquia, the town’s most popular and most photographed neo-Gothic church. From our table in full view, the church lit up the sky as it towered hundreds of feet above the town’s main plaza below, El Jardin.
Below are some of the highlights of my week of wellness in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. I absolutely fell in love with this beautiful town and can’t wait to return again soon. No doubt, having a local expert give us the grand tour made all the difference.
