I love smoothies but smoothies are frowned upon in Ayurveda because they’re often made with frozen fruits and combined with a bunch of ingredients that are not easily digested together. In Ayurveda, digestion is king and queen, when it comes to supporting optimal health. 👑.
So how can we enjoy the immunity boosting superpowers of fruits and veggies in a delish smoothie that is prepared in a way that is more “Ayurveda approved”? By modifying …
In this smoothie, there are just a few ingredients.
1) First, no frozen fruit. (Cold fruit is harder to digest.)
2) Second, keep it simple. This smoothie has just 2 main ingredients, a banana and kale.
3) Add spices or lemon to support digestion.
4) Serve at room temperature. 😋
Always remember, our body is a powerful machine designed to self-heal, but it needs our support! Science shows that fruits and veggies contain phytochemicals and micronutrients that boost our immune system’s natural ability to heal.
In addition, a high intake of fruit and veggies helps reduce inflammation and supports circulation. A healthy circulatory system is essential because the immune system works inside the circulatory system.
In this green smoothie, I added lemon and ginger to boost digestion. Also, coconut flakes (you could also add avocado) for a bit of healthy fats for digestibility.
Ayurveda teaches that because we each have a unique constitution, there’s no one-size-fits-all recommended diet for anyone. With this in mind, always tune in to how you feel after eating. If you feel bloated or have gas, it’s a sign you’re likely not digesting properly or something is amiss.
If you have weaker digestion, you may need to add more warming spices or adjust ingredients. Or, perhaps even slightly sautée the kale a bit with lemon first.
To make this simple green smoothie, blend the following:
1 banana
Handful organic kale
Fresh lemon juice
Grated ginger
Room temperature filtered water
Enjoy! ☀️😊
